Urinary Tract Infection Tips

I didn't want to place this at the top of the page, but here are a few tips to preventing a urinary tract infection; keeping clean is very important, especially taking care when wiping after a bowel movement. Try as hard as possible not to wipe foreward into the other pubic area. This bacteria can cause other infections as well. Bathing or cleaning the pubic area once per day and after intercourse is helpful. Try to avoid excessive sugars, which can cause other problems as well, including yeast infections. Supposedly drinking non-sweetened cranberry juice will help also. Please note that it may help prevent a urinary tract infection, but it will not cure it. Exercise strengthens your immume system and could certainly help. Go to the bathroom when you need to and don't hold it, if possible.

116 Investigators At 75 Institutions Nationwide Receive Research Grants From The American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society, the largest non-government, not-for-profit funding source of cancer research in the United States, has awarded 116 national research and training grants totaling more than $54 million in the first of two grant cycles for 2009. The grants are the first under a new realignment that created six major program areas in research and training. All of the grants go into effect January 1, 2009.

Iceberg Lettuce Sourced E. Coli Outbreak Update, Michigan, USA
Since September 1, 38 cases of E.coli O157:H7 with the same genetic fingerprint have been reported to Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) from various counties. Additionally, nine individuals in Illinois and three from the Province of Ontario have also been identified with the same genetic strain of E. coli O157. Of the 38 cases, 21 have been hospitalized, and one has developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).

Mississippi Health Officials Report Additional Mosquito-borne Cases In Humans - West Nile Virus
Today, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reports three new human cases of West Nile virus (WNV) for 2008, bringing the state's total number of WNV cases to 99 with three deaths. The new cases are in Hinds, Jackson and Leflore counties. The agency also reports one case of Jamestown Canyon virus (JCV) in Lamar County. MSDH reports both confirmed and probable cases to the public.

Dirty Hands Study
